Up-and-coming Los Angeles band The Slightlys appeared in the second hour of Static Beach’s Friday Night Liveon July 25th, 2014.
After watching The Slightlys perform, it’s hard to believe they are all teenagers. The band consists of Finneas O’Connell, Darius Dudley, David Marinelli, and Robby Fitzpatrick who met at a battle of the bands in 2012 (as parts of different bands). They all saw the potential in each other and less than a year later came together to form The Slightlys. (They ended up winning the very same battle of the bands as The Slightlys the following year.) The band has performed at many venues across Los Angeles including The House of Blues Hollywood and Club Nokia, as well as performing at the LA County Fair, The Eagle Rock Music Festival, and The Vans Warped Tour.
Just this month, The Slightlys won the Emerging Artist Competition at Rusty’s Surf Ranch in Santa Monica, which brought them to the ears of Static Beach. As part of their prize, they will perform for a huge crowd at The Twilight Concert Series at the Santa Monica Pier on July 31st with Omar Souleyman and De Lux. They are also in the midst of recording their first album and hope to release it later this year.
On this episode of Friday Night Live, The Slightlys chat with FNL co-hosts Mark Sutherland, Kristin Vahl, and Rob Christie about writing music, taking cookies from strangers, and how hard it is to find a good band name that is not already taken.
The Slightlys have a selection of self-released songs available for download at Reverbnation.
