Ocean Eyes was written by The Slightlys lead singer, Finneas O’Connell in 2015. Soon after, Billie Eilish — Finneas’ sister — decided to cut a track for a dance recital to be choreographed by her dance instructor. Deciding to share it via SoundCloud with her dance instructor was a turning point in her life. More than 20 million combined streams later and praise from influencers and critics from around the world, Billie signed with Interscope Records and is now on the fast track to becoming one of the world’s most exciting artists to come out of the U.S.
In November, Billie debuted her dance performance video of Ocean Eyes.
“Like music, dance has always been my passion; a way to express how I feel,” she said. “We originally recorded Ocean Eyes for a dance recital to be choreographed by my teacher Fred. We produced it with a tempo and arrangement that would fit lyrical/contemporary dance thinking through every moment. I ended up being injured and wasn’t able to dance for a long time, so after all that has happened with our music this year it is especially exciting to be able to do this video. Working with Fred and other dancers from the studio and just finally getting to dance again is amazing!”
