Rusty’s Surf Ranch has been an iconic drinks/dining/dancing fixture of SoCal’s historic Santa Monica Pier for 20 years, and since 2001 it has also been a place for local bands to flex their music muscle at the annual Emerging Artist Competition.
On Thursday June 12, 2014, The Fire Department, The Mo-Odds, and The Slightlys performed in the first of the 2014 EAC Semi-Finals, each competing for a spot in the EAC Final on July 11. The Fire Department got the crowd in a groove with their soulful sound and vocalist Zeal Levin’s smooth moves as he left the stage to dance with the audience. Conversely, The Mo-Odds sped things up a bit with their aggressive, energetic music (and singer Christopher Mowod’s sweet dance moves), and The Slightlys kept up the energy, proving that age is just a number and high school students can still rock.
At the end of the night, the judging began, and the winners are yet to be announced… Who will make it to this year’s EAC Final? Stay tuned to Static Beach to find out…
California Windfall, The Roustabouts and Bonavox will compete in the 2nd Semi-Final of Rusty’s EAC14 on Thursday June 19, 2014 at Rusty’s Surf Ranch (256 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401). $5 cover. All ages. Doors at 8pm.
