Nothing Slight About the Slightlys
The Slightlys, an L.A.-based alternative pop-rock band, is blasting through an endlessly exciting and award-winning summer and fall. The band consists of four high school seniors—drummer David Marinelli, lead vocalist Finneas O’Connell, guitarist Robby Fitzpatrick, and bassist/violinist Darius Dudley II.
The band kicked off summer vacation with a fundraiser for The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to honor Burbanker Christopher Wilke. Drummer David Marinelli organized and produced the event which featured four bands and raised more than $4,000 in Chris’ memory. Their next three appearances were part of the Emerging Artists Competition in Santa Monica sponsored by Rusty’s on the Pier. They won all three nights, and as part of their grand prize, went on to play the Twilight Concert Series at The Santa Monica Pier opening for Omar Souleyman to a crowd of more than 10,000. They were also featured on Static Beach Radio playing three songs and were featured in several editions of their online magazine.
The band also had a large spread in the new online magazine, Ion Indie.
Their favorite gig in June was the Vans Warped Tour in Pomona, where they gained new fans and played on a stage right next to many of the bands they have admired.
In August they headed into a studio to begin the long process of recording a CD. By early September, The Slightlys were contacted by CBS producers and were interviewed by Erica Olsen in a 4-minute documentary discussing what a “Superhero” means to them. Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, the spot aired over the course of five nights during the David Letterman show. Click here to view the entire clip.
Summer ended, but fall found them at the L.A. County Fair participating in Battle of the Bands sponsored by The Vans Warped Tour. They advanced to the Finals and then on September 26—playing with other extremely fierce (and older) bands—The Slightlys emerged the victor!
The night was thrilling as they played for esteemed judges from the Warped Tour, Coachella, and record labels. Included in their grand prize is a spot on next summer’s Vans Warped Tour, a check for $1,200, and musical instruments from Fender Instruments.
They are set to play the Granada Hills Street Fair October 11 and are excited to be playing at the opening night premiere of the film Life Inside Out (which features the band’s music and frontman Finneas O’Connell in the lead role) on October 17 in Pasadena.
